It’s a sin to kill a mockingbird.” This line, spoken by Atticus, sums up the heart of this book. A mockingbird is a harmless bird that makes the world more pleasant with its song.

In this novel, the mockingbird symbolizes Boo Radley and Tom Robinson, who were both peaceful people who never did any harm. To kill or harm them would be a sin.

Boo Radley went through life never wanting to hurt a fly. He left gum, pennies, and wax dolls for Scout and Jem. He sewed Jem’s pants and left them on the fence so he could get them easily. Lastly, he saved Scout’s and Jem’s lives while risking his own.

Boo was a fragile and gentle person. To send him off to jail to be executed would be like killing a mockingbird. Scout makes this point when she says to Atticus, “Well, it’d be sort of like shootin’ a mockingbird.” And this statement means that when Boo radley got sent to jail that was harm being done.

Chopping wood and doing whatever he could for Mayella Ewell was Tom Robinson’s only crime. The readers know Robinson is innocent, but they also know that he will be killed.

Just like Boo Radley, Tom never harmed a soul. He risked his own safety by helping Mayella, and he did it because someone needed him. It was like a mockingbird being shot down when Robinson was accused of raping Mayella. In the moment that she accused him, he was a dead man. Why would someone acuse Tom Robinson is it because he’s black or because he has a smaller left hand?

The Radley’s and Robinson’s parts in the story bring power to it. Tom Robinson’s death was a defeat for justice and an insult to human nature. A mockingbird was shot and the readers get to see how much of a sin it was.

There is no doubt that Harper Lee’s To Kill a Mockingbird is a story of racial injustice in the South as well as a touching story. The courtroom scene demonstrates the power of the prejudice in the area, stirring the sense of right and wrong of all readers. Only the most simple-minded of readers can fail to be affected by the adventures of Scout and Jem.

Unfortunately, the novel tells its story with too much clearness; halfway through the novel. As Scout examines the situations affecting her and her family, she seems too wise in the ways of the world, much like an adult in a child’s mind.

For example, Scout’s revelation at the end of the novel. while she was standing on the Radley porch, was clearly beyond a child’s capability. Most adults would be too shocked by the experience in the forest even to be lucid, let alone come to the deep dreamy at least she reached out to Boo Radley. Instead of a character revelation from Scout, it comes across more as a message from the author.

Another big part is the fire but how can a fire just start. That’s right It the fire cannot just start by it self the fire isn’t supposed to be this big I believe their was a catch to this fire maybe the author wanted to tell us something because no normal person would turn up all the heat in their house to keep their flowers from dying. Maybe it’s because the author likes flowers and wants to tell everyone how much he likes them by making one of the characters like flowers. The fire symbolizes a mocking bird well at least the flowers do, what I mean by this is that the flowers do no harm their just their for the beauty and the smell and the fire causes the flowers to die and so the flowers are mockingbirds.

To Kill a Mockingbird Quotes – this fire could also have killed someone but for some reason it did not maybe it was just made to symbolize the fate of Jem and Scout and to make them seem as mockingbirds because they mean no harm to anyone they are just their to make things right.
