Harper lee, the author of “to kill a mockingbird”published in, 1960, is presumably dead but gladly made an extraordinary novel before her time was up. Jean louise (scout) is an amazing girl who is very intelligent and a little curious. This book is about her life as a child in Maycomb, Alabama, in the 1930’s during the Great Depression. The book “To Kill A Mockingbird” is recommendable because, it gives you an idea what life was like back during the slavery days for african americans. Nothing about it is boring, it is funny but it is also dark and mysterious, especially when reading about Boo Radley. The book’s characters also stick with you, you will most likely not forget about them. Although this whole entire book is not based on slavery and people mistreating African Americans, it does give a little insight on how they were treated back in the day, and the people who actually tried to help them.

An example would be about Atticus Finch, he was a lawyer who represented “black” defendants. He was not directly “bullied” one but his children were, even from adults. Atticus did not really care about this much and he knew that what he was doing, was the right thing and that everyone should be fair. Another example would be when Calpurnia, the housemaid took Jem and Scout to church with her. When Calpurnia was talking to the other people (the African Americans) she was talking different, not like she usually did with good grammar. When Jem asked her why she told him that she could read and they could not, which is why they can not talk with proper grammar. Since there was segregation there were no good schools that could teach them proper grammar. There are dark parts and funny parts in this story. Which would include parts with Boo Radley in it of course. He is basically in most parts of the story, especially over the summer when Dill, Jem, and Scout get together. They always cause trouble when they are together.

Like whenever they were betting over who could go and knock on the radley’s door. Jem ended up doing it and he got shot at by mr. radley. Losing his pants, Jem was going to definitely get in trouble, so, being the great friend that he is, Dill lended Jem his pants. Thank goodness everyone in town were distracted by the gunshots or they would have been caught. In conclusion, everything about “To Kill A Mockingbird” is amazing. Harper lee did a remarkable job at describing everything like it was in jean louise’s point of view as a child. It is also really cool how she put the story. Like it was actually someone telling a life story. It is an extraordinary book and it is very recommendable.
