The Concept Of Soul In The Bhagavad Gita

March 25, 2021 by Essay Writer

As per Bhagavad Gita soul cannot take birth and it does not die. It is an invisible powerful entity, found in each living creature be it humans or animals, and it is connected to the mind and body. The human body can be affected by materialistic and earthly relationships, pleasures, pains and emotions, but the soul remains unaffected by such things. Each time after death – the body changes and the soul moves from one body to other. During meditation when the person concentrates towards Self, they forget the pains of the body and this can be a state of living in the consciousness. Most great researches in the world have been conducted by people who have been able to move their mind beyond their bodily needs because once the mind concentrates and goes towards Self, it attains the ability to know things beyond the boundaries created by the personal body. It is the very source of consciousness which can be seen as the knower of all the universal knowledge.

“One who sees the Supersoul equally present everywhere, in every living being, does not degrade himself by his mind. Thus he approaches the transcendental destination.” – Bhagavad Gita 13.29 Soul is beyond time and it can move from one time zone to other, from past to future. It is indestructible and insoluble. It was created at the start of the creation of the Cosmos from the single universal Godly energy, and it will merge with the universal soul at the end of the destruction of all the universal existence. It is the entity that can see things even after death. It is a complete entity which can live independently of the body. The body without a soul is a dead body.

It is described as something with dimensions and measurement, which is like one-hundred parts of the upper part of the hair that is further divided into hundreds for measurement. This is a generalized dimension – mentioned in simple language. It has a subatomic size and is responsible for intelligence in humans. The Upanishads state – “It is situated in the heart of every living entity.” It is an entity that lives even when the physical body is dead. It is spread all over the body as consciousness and is said to be seated in the heart. People try to get rid of diseases to prevent the body from dying. The body is the living temporary destination but the soul is the source that can drive energies from the environment and help the physical body to grow. Lord Krishna says – “O Arjuna, why are you worried about losing anybody, when the life is driven by soul that is eternal.” People who have nourished their souls have been able to achieve greater connectivity with the cosmos that helps in enhancing intuition. Those who have ignored it are driven by bodily needs and pleasures, and they have a poor intuition.
