My Impression Of Green Girl By Cyan Abad Jugo

Green Girl is a fantasy story written by Cyan Abad Jugo. Although it may sound like a story for children, the story is actually not meant for kids. Green Girl is actually a story that raises the issue of gender and social criticism. However, as Cyan Abad-Jugo is a writer who prefers to write using a child’s point of view, it seems like a fairy tale at first glance.

The story’s protagonist is Milton. A child who lived in an apartment with his mother and Aunt Hilda. He got interested in the story about a Green Girl, a mysterious creature. This was told to him by his Aunt. He tried to befriend the creature, but was scolded by his mother when he got caught speaking to a wall. This, however, did not stop the boy. When his mother took a nap, he escaped and headed to their backyard, where he felt the presence of a mysterious creature. Since Milton thought he was going to get eaten, he ran to an old house and hid there.

Milton’s mother found him and brought him to sleep. He was punished by his mom, so he woke up hungry. The boy discovered the shadow of the mysterious creature. The shadow told her past to Milton and asked him to be her friend. Milton refused, and the shadow finally faded away.

Modern children stories usually have a happy ending. This is because their emotional vulnerability, and thirst for justice are taken into account. Children stories usually have a clear concept of who is good, and who is bad. Green Girl is not like that. Although it may seem as if the mysterious creature was the villain, while Milton was the good person, it is only like that because the story was told in Milton’s point of view. The story could be interpreted in a different way when written in a third person’s point of view, or even the Green Girl’s point of view. Therefore, I think that this story is meant for teenagers. The writer did not sugarcoat his words, and jut told the story.

The story of the Green Girl by Cyan Abad-Jugo has given me a lesson that as child’s curiosity will lead you to discovering new things that can affect you either in a good or bad way. Milton was a kid that was told about many explainable things that triggered his curiosity. With curiosity we need to have an answer to our question but sometimes taking risk to challenge our curiosity is very freighting and dangerous. That is eventually happened in the story his curiosity took over him and it led him to trouble. The story tells us that we must obey our parents because they know what’s best for us and what’s good for us and we need to know our limitations in life because it is for our own good.
