It’s interesting that Dale Chihuly got a Master degree on glass blowing. I didn’t even know that glass blowing could be studied and that you could get a college degree on it. It is also amazing how many forms glass can take; it looks so beautiful. The Persian and Amber chandelier, as well as the electric blue, have beautiful vibrant colors and elongated and elegant shapes. It’s amazing how just out of glass he can create realistic looking flowers. The Persian Ceiling from 1999 looks a lot like the ceiling at the Bellagio Hotel lobby. It looks like Chihuly liked to name his artworks the name of seasons and colors, and also liked to use vibrant colors in all of his art. For example, the True Blue, Tropical Blaze, and Spring Fling drawings were all created with vibrant colors and when you look at them they give you a sense of happiness.

Lino Tagliapietra is recognized as one of the world’s premier artists working in glass and most of his colleagues agree. Lino tends to name his blown glass sculptures after famous places he has visited. For example, Seattle Sunset and Maui. Another of Lino Tagliapietra’s glass series are named for their familiar shapes. For example, Dinosaur and Angel Tear. His works, like Chihuly’s are characterized for their vibrancy; using colors like oranges and reds and electric blues.

William Morris’ glass artwork has been influenced by his interest in archeology and ancient pagan cultures, and Italian artists who have shared their knowledge with him. His artworks show the relationship between humans and nature. William Morris work goes beyond craftsmanship to touch the souls of it’s viewers. A unique aspect of William Morris’ glass art is that he uses various techniques such as sprinkling powdered glass and minerals onto a blown surface, and acid washing to achieve surface texture. William Morris’ art is very different from Lino Tagliapietra’s and Dale Chihuly. Tagliapietra and Chihuly’s artworks are more sophisticated; while Morris’s is still beautiful, it represents more nature and natural shapes. Examples of his connection with nature through his work are the banana leaf and animal shaped sculptures. He also has a collection of cinerary urns that have engraved designs and a collection of fish related sculptures like trapped fish and fish hooks. Another one of his collections is the Mazorca one, which is just corn cobs and urns with corn designs. His wall panels consist of snakes and other animals, skulls and human faces.

Out this three artists, Chihuly’s work was my favorite. Although they were all great, Chihuly’s chandeliers were very beautiful and elegant.

Dan Daley chandeliers also captured my attention. Some of them look very innovative with human figures and birds hanging from them. But my favorite one was the ancient looking one with electric blue lamps coming out of the main chandelier. Another one of my favorites was Christopher Ries sculptures. They were translucent and sharp looking, very appealing to the eye.

I also liked Jon Kuhn artworks a lot. His intricate glass art sculpture were very aesthetically pleasing. Kuhn is a cold glass artist; he cuts glass into small squares before polishing and laminating them into complex prisms of light and color. Jon Kuhn glass sculptures are characterized for their intricacy and ability to reflect and refract light. Among cold glass artists, Kuhn’s work stands out for its complexity and its geometric forms. Kuhn creates cold glass art in a variety of shapes and forms but he is best known for his glass cubes which contain a colorful glass interior cased in clear glass.

Overall I enjoyed the experience of admiring all of those artworks as they were extremely beautiful, captivating, and complex.
