The Different Plot Twists in Macbeth, a Play William Shakespeare

Macbeth is about contradiction and ambition, the play was written by the famous play wright William Shakespeare. The play is about a Macbeth who is driven to become king, Macbeth kills all and any that get in his way of fulfilling that dream. He puts faith in the words and prophesies of the three witches. Macbeth kills Duncan and Macduff finds Duncan body and Macbeth kills guards insisting that it was their daggers that are smeared with Duncan blood as proof they had committed the crime. The crown is passed to Macbeth. Macbeth kills all and any that get in his way. Macbeth kills Banquo and Banquo ghost haunts Macbeth. Lady Macbeth’s conscience begins to torture her. In the end, Lady Macbeth and Macbeth both died and Malcolm becomes king. Even though Lady Macbeth does deserve her fate, because she knew the consequences that came with it, Lady Macbeth does not deserve her fate because of ambition, remorse and downfall.

Lady Macbeth ambition in the play is shown greatly. Lady Macbeth ambition drives her to manipulate Macbeth into murdering innocent people Lady Macbeth has a relationship between manipulation and ambition. “The raven himself is hoarse…To cry ‘Hold, Hold!’ (I.v. p 21). Lady Macbeth asks the spirits to unsex her. This shows the ambition she has to be queen. Lady Macbeth unwavering ambition may force her to place her values, morals, and good judgment, nut this blind her ambition that may lead to her downfall. “Glams thou art and Cawdor… The illness shout attend it” (I.v. p 20). Lady Macbeth is also gaining power through Macbeth. She tells Macbeth to kill King Duncan, but Macbeth is hesitating too, but Lady Macbeth convinces Macbeth to kill Duncan. This is because she wants to become queen alongside Macbeth as a King. Two qualities Lady Macbeth posses are ambition and power in richness.

Lady Macbeth remorse is not shown until Duncan death. Lady Macbeth is remorseful through her statement “Whose our desire is got without content” (III. ii p.56). There is a lack of fulfillment the role of queen that, she posses her and hints that her actions are worthless and it points toward remorseful feelings. Lady Macbeth changes as an individual who is ambitious and manipulative to a regretful and remorseful emotion. Lady Macbeth is remorseful because Macbeth brutally murdered several people and she and her husband kept the secret of the cold blooded murder of the King, for which Lady Macbeth feels a burden and it was her idea. Lady Macbeth remorse is limited and she soon beings to fit insanity. She only feels guilty because that is her state of mind is allowing her to drive her insanity. After all of this, she feels remorse for her actions and moved by Macbeth fit of fear stricken guilty. Why did you bring…grooms with blood (I vii p. 36).

Lady Macbeth conscience and soul are not at rest. This caused Lady Macbeth downfall. The possibility of being caught had bother Lady Macbeth, she feared that her and Macbeth would have been caught. Lady Macbeth knew the magnitude of the acts, she did not care. Lady Macbeth was willing to do the act of murdering Duncan to gain power. “Look like innocent flower. But be the serpent under’t” (I v p.22). Lady Macbeth could not see the consequences and gave Macbeth false courage. Lady Macbeth started to get nightmares and she tries to wash her hands that have blood on it. “Out dam’d spot! I say…in him (V. i. p105). She beings to lose her mind and she give out the moral doubt. Lady Macbeth comes to a point to make a decision to respond to the forces of fate. Her conscience affects her that she commits suicide. The downfall of Lady Macbeth occurs when she has done the opposite by making the decision to finally begin to question her sinfulness.

In the end, Lady Macbeth did not deserve her fate. The torture of not sleeping and her insanity was punishment enough. Even though, she encourages Macbeth to murder Duncan, she regrets her action and realize a little too late, after Duncan was dead. Lady Macbeth ambition, remorse, and downfall, helped the play to see how the murder to Duncan affected her and Macbeth. Lady Macbeth ambition guided her in Macbeth in a relationship that she was manipulating him. This caused Macbeth to acts on false courage and hope. Also, her remorse showed that she made bad decision. Lady Macbeth regrets what she did and she carries the burden of the idea murdering Duncan. Lastly, Lady Macbeth downfall was shown that she suffered very hard and the world sleep had haunt her. In the end, the punishment of the conscience and soul not a slept is what Lady Macbeth deserved.
