The Deception of Two Characters Jerry & Peter from the Story “The Zoo” by Christy Osborn

In The story “the zoo” Jerry and Peter were the main characters. These two characters have different character, which affect on their psychologically and physically actions. These two characters have been depicted as major figures all through of this story. Jerry and Peter are negative person.

From “the zoo story”, Jerry is depicted clearly as negative person where he conducts a boring life. Therefore, he wants to try speak with another person on the street branch: Jerry: “ I have been to the zoo. I said, I have been to the zoo. MISTER, I HAVE BEEN TO THE ZOO!” Peter:” Hm?… What?… I am sorry, were you talking to me?” All the time, that his life runs up against his will, he wants to try speak with Peter. It is interesting that this story calls “the zoo”, but whole story about two person on the street branch.

All Jerry`s style look like unsuccessful person. He wants to try to speak with Peter, but he does not want to speak with him. Peter answers to the questions too briefly:” Why ya; yes, it is. Yes; two. Yes… I guess so.” Jerry proves his negative all the efforts, that Peter drew attention on him. On the other hand, Peter, also, proves and depicts himself to be a negative person. First, Peter tells that he has a happy life, but he does not look like a happy person. His main role of this story, just sitting, reading news papers and listen Jerry`s bad stories. There is a contrast that is reflected between the two characters when author shows their personal life. Jerry is a poor guy. He has no apparent job, his parents died when he was a child, and he lives in a dump. Moreover, he keeps two empty picture frame in his room because: ”I do not have picture of anyone to put in them.”

However, Peter doe not look like a poor guy, but he is a boring. Also, he has a got a wife, two daughters, and a few parakeets and cats. He likes to come out to the park on Sunday and sit on the bench and read Time magazine. In addition, during the week he goes to work, where he`s paid a lot of money. Peter has thought life. That is why Jerry says about Peter something: “ You are a vegetable, and a slightly nearsighted one, I think.”
