The gap between them was not fully covered with their love for each other that even the power they had in the society was not attracted to each other to pull them close together.

The Great Gatsby is a 1925 novel written by American author F. Scott Fitzgerald that follows a cast of characters living in the fictional towns of West Egg and East Egg on prosperous Long Island in the summer of 1922. It is presented objectively that one’s effort or action that are intended to accomplish with a basis in observable facts rather than opinions. F. Scott Fitzgerald’s True Purpose for Jay Gatsby. At the end of the novel, when Nick described Gatsby as he approached his unfortunate fate, he used this green light to represent how Gatsby yearned for an impossible goal that only moved further and further away. However, Gatsby continued to yearn for it. Different elements are shown in the movie that could possibly widen our knowledge as we dig deeper to its meaning. The valley of ashes was introduced in the first part as a “grotesque place, New York’s dumping ground halfway between egg and the city where the burnt-out coal that powered the booming golden city”. Valley of ashes symbolized as the negative effect of greed and injustice in which people living there have to work hard in order to live.

The greed of the society that leads to hopelessness of people. Valley of ashes was also known as social and moral decay of society during 1920. In this place, there’s a billboard of the eyes of Dr. T.J. Eckleburg which could be seen many times in the movie. Nick described this billboard as a “forgotten oculist whose eyes blooded over it all like the eyes of God”. This billboard seems like the judgement of overall deeds of the characters. It looks like someone was looking after them just like how Tom having an affair. On the contrary, Nick narrated “Gatsby believed in the green light, the orgiastic future that year by year recedes before us. It eluded us then, but that’s no matter- tomorrow we will run faster, stretch out our arms farther”. The green light that Gatsby tried to reach out represents his dream; get Daisy. But the distance between them was a hindrance so Gatsby requested Nick to invite Daisy for a tea. Even after some time of patching things up together, Gatsby and Daisy’s gap in the society was an obstruction for them to end up together. The gap between them was not fully covered with their love for each other that even the power they had in the society was not attracted to each other to pull them close together. The overall film was realistic since it considered the different aspect in the society. Though, the movie focused on Nick’s point of view towards the society; how money changed and affected people’s lives.

In conclusion the movie, The Great Gatsby surfaced all the society phenomena that gave a hint of realization to the audience that standards of people are based on their social status. People used their money to manipulate other people beneath them. Though Daisy Buchanan and Jay Gatsby come from very different backgrounds, they are similar because they are both addicted to achievement: their unrealistic expectations and constant need to look to the future prevents them from ever being happy. For a better viewpoint in the movie, the storyline has to be improved to fully absorb the main key points that the movie wants to address.
