How Dr. Jose Rizal Sacrificed for Philippines

January 21, 2021 by Essay Writer

Some people love learning. Some love glory. Some love what they are doing. There are also those that love their country more than any other. These people would do everything for the welfare of their motherland. They would protect the life of their fellow countrymen even if it means sacrificing their own. They would fight for their country’s freedom even if it means compromising their own. This thing is called patriotism. Dr. Jose Rizal is the very role model of a patriotic citizen. I learned how Rizal sacrificed so much for our country.

His time in Berlin was never easy. He experienced hunger and sickness. He had this vision of writing a novel that would expose the injustice that his fellow countrymen were experiencing. His life in Berlin was hard, and making the novel was harder. The friends who promised to help him did not write even one chapter. With all these things, Rizal continued his vision. Luckily enough, his friend helped him. It is really true that the kindness you gave to others will always come back to you. Rizal looked for ways to help the Philippines without shedding of blood. He wanted to help through his pen. He believed that by writing about the cruelty of the Spaniards he can open the mind of the Filipinos to fight back. When the novel was released and distributed, it is really an excellent work of literature. The characters and the personalities were really representations of the Spanish colonial society in the Philippines. The novel shows the oppression of the church, the corruption and cruelty of the friars, and the maltreatment from the Guardia Civil. The novel unified the Filipinos and opened their consciousness of what is really happening in our country. The novel gave courage for every Filipino to do something and fight back. Even though it is just a book, it significantly influenced the Philippine revolution. Filipinos were tired of being slaves. They were tired of being treated as puppets. They were tired of everything. Rizal has opened their hearts and minds. The time has come to fight for freedom.

All in all, the novel is not just about fighting for freedom. It also shows great love. Upon reading the synopsis of Noli Me Tangere I saw how the main character, Crisostomo Ibarra, loved his father very much. He was angered and devastated when he knew what happened to his father. The novel also shows the love our parents have for us through Sisa. We can really tell how she loves her children. She even went crazy and died looking for them. My mind was also opened to the issues on our political framework. Up until now there are still corrupt officials in the government. There is still injustice. Social and class discrimination is still rampant. We have gained freedom from our invaders, yet we are still not free from ourselves. I hope that time will come when we will all be free from everything, including our own chains. Let us all hope for a better Philippines.
