Introduction
On 14th March 2014, Laura Bates wrote about sexism on The Guardian. In her article, she explores the various ways sexism is perpetrated in the world, both on the streets and online. The show brings out the importance of men’s participation towards putting an end to sexism. She says “The battle against gender inequality isn’t going to be won with only half the population on board (The Guardian). From this text, it is clear that the fight against sexism has become some competition instead of collective responsibility of both genders towards gender equality.
The fight for gender equality ought to be done by both men and women. This is because there is a need for men to recognize and inform others about the need for change. Misogynistic comments have been made about women through the mainstream media and this push for reform can only be possible if both men and women take responsibility. According to this article in The Guardian, the writer shows a few men who have taken responsibility and stood up against the vice. This is a change in the right direction. The need for men to be involved is indispensable. One such man who was interviewed expressed his concerns about the sexist comments made in football matches. He didn’t remain silent but wrote a letter to the club chairman to do something about it. (Kasumovic & Kuznekoff) show that the excuse that women are entering male-dominated territories is inadmissible because sexism is perpetrated by a few ignorant or selfish people.
Conclusion
It is clear that the fight against sexism will only succeed if both genders take the first lead in activism. The input of men is equally important just like women. The fight against sexism need not be a competition of some sort. Men need to take the responsibility of educating other men on gender equality (Men Against Abuse Now).
